A 23-year-old Naxal operative of Jharkhand, who had been living in Delhi under a false identity, working as a domestic helper, was arrested from Pitampura area in outer Delhi, police said.

Jharkhand’s Kudaburu village was the accused’s original home and here she was wanted for her role in a number of police encounters, and here she was booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, allowing her to be charged under such extensive administrative provisions. On March 26, 2023, a court in Jharkhand had issued a non-bailable warrant against her.

The woman came to Delhi in 2020, and assuming a false identity, she worked as a domestic help in Noida and other parts of the city, police sources said. Eventually she settled in Pitampura where she lived discreetly and kept herself away from law enforcement agencies over time.

Vikram Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, informed that they had spied on the Maoist extremist for months and intelligence was gathered about the Maoist extremist’s presence in the National Capital Region (NCR), and after that they received concrete information about the Maoist extremist being present. On March 4, a police team working on this intelligence conducted the raid in Maharana Pratap Enclave, Pitampura and arrested her.

Further investigation had revealed that the accused was born in a family into farming and was recruited in the CPI (Naxal) faction at the age of 10. She later became involved in actively Maoist operations such as armed encounters with the security forces.

Now, the police are in touch with the Jharkhand authorities to transfer her as well as continuing legal proceedings. It is a breakthrough in the efforts to combat left-wing extremism in urban areas.
