Heavy rain lashed the national capital on Thursday, causing waterlogging in several areas of the city and traffic snarls during peak hours, with commuters reporting long delays on key arterial roads and highways.Traffic jams were reported on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, Shahid Jeet Singh Marg, Bir Sarai, the JNU Gate- Jia Sarai Road, NH-48 between Dhaula Khan and Rajokri flyover towards Gurugram, Kalindi Kunj and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
Internet flooded with frustration where people complained about prolonged traffic snarls, while some even spent close to an hour on routes that normally take much lesser time. Others flagged the lack of traffic management at few bottle necks like Yusuf Sarai Market and the JNU Gate stretch.
Traffic was also reported near Green Park metro station and AIIMS, where commuters reported long queues of vehicles during the morning hours.Sites Shastri Park in northeast Delhi. A low-lying area also reported inundated shops causing inconvenience to traders and residents.
Similar situations were reported from Sainik Farms where submerged roads disrupted vehicular movement while Rohtak Road saw water accumulation after the downpour.An orange alert has been issued for Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places while a yellow alert is in place for Gurugram and Faridabad.
