The Delhi Police have now to deal with the menace of over 250 Delhi and NCR schools having received bombs threat emails. To remove the fear and panic among the population, the Police have engaged NCB in Moscow, Russia. They harbor a glimmer of hope, believing that they can unearth some information on the real person behind the email account with the Russian domain (.ru) that was used to broadcast the message of the bomb threat. It is the ‘[email protected]’ address of a person who registered with a private email service provider under a VPN intact to hide his identity. This email address, unique, was used to deliver alarms of bomb threats to all the schools on the morning of Wednesday, containing a 281-word message warning of detonation in the precincts.

The email service provider of the characteristics of Mail.ru, which is associated with VK Group (very similar to Outlook or Gmail), is the host of the Email Service Provider. VPNs worked as well; hence, the opponents from different countries managed to hide their IP addresses. Therefore, the investigators struggled to trace them.

Chandler, a senior police officer involved in the case, publicly shared that with an army of forensic analysts, this aspect of the case was pieced together, and each email traced back to the same origin, showing the sender to be an identical person. The Delhi Police, through Interpol, have sent full details of this inventor, name, address, contact address, second e-mail ID, and finally, a contact log full to NCB Russia. The contact log is with the intention that ‘NCB Russia’ may enlighten the fact-file of the inventor.

On Wednesday morning, as all had fixed their eyes on their inboxes, it was that one blackmail email that led authorities across the Delhi-NCR to an unlimited panic, as no one could describe the outbreak of fear among students and parents at the school level. The lack of schedule for a parent run led the army to call the search and rescue team, the bomb disposal squad, the dog handlers, and the fire brigade, and the massive crowd caused massive traffic jams, which finally resulted in the closure of several schools.

The Delhi Police, through its specialized units, including the special cell and counterintelligence teams, have initiated a comprehensive probe into the incident, registering cases of criminal conspiracy and intimidation under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.

Initial findings suggest a recurring pattern, with the (.ru) domain previously linked to a similar hoax threat last year. Authorities suspect a larger conspiracy at play and are actively pursuing leads to ensure public safety and thwart potential security breaches.
