Delhi police has tweaked security measures in the national capital ahead of a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday evening at the Central Park in Connaught Place.
The CJP has invited the people to bring the national flag to the park at 5 pm. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also appealed to its workers, supporters and to people in general to attend in huge numbers.
Delhi Police have enhanced security arrangements in place to keep an eye on the event and maintain law and order. Members of the armed forces and the police, numbering around 6,000 have been deployed, and 30-35 more cameras with audio-visual recording facilities have been mounted to boost the policing effort.
Central Park Closed 16th and 17th October
Connaught Place and other areas are under special restrictions for the protection of people of any caste, sex or religion in accordance with section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) imposed by Delhi Police. Police have warned anyone breaking the restrictions will be liable under the law.
Central Park will be closed on October 16th and 17th for administrative purposes, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has told the police. It has also called on the authorities to stop outsiders being allowed into and secure the area.
The closure of the park goes on the back of other curbs around the planned demonstration, where police have reportedly been brought, to keep a check on the people who are coming and going at Connaught Place.
The CJP has been protesting in the capital, which reportedly included marches calling for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from alleged irregularities in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The recent meeting falls under the bigger protests against electoral-roll revision by the opposition. The charge remains to be contested and the protest is expected to grab eyeballs as the demand for resignation of CEC comes in the spotlight.
Authorities have been stepping up security measures with thousands of people on patrol, and pro-hinding measures are being put in place before the planned event.
