New Delhi: A Delhi Court, on Saturday, took cognizance of the chargesheet issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Red Fort Blast case that runs into 7,500 pages. The chargesheet was placed on the special judge’s (Prashant Sharma) register in the Rouse Avenue Courts, but a detailed order has not been made available. The issue is now on the agenda at the September hearing for documents.
The detonation of the vehicle carrying an improvised explosive device last year at Lal Qila Metro Station occurred on November 10. The explosion happened at a busy news in traffic and left at least 11 people dead, in addition to several injured. Mention was also made of nearby vehicles and properties being damaged in the explosion.
Investigation reveals that Umar-un-Nabi, a doctor and native of Jammu and Kashmir, was once inside in the blastable vehicle when it went off. The NIA then filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act.
The agency has so far arrested several people who are believed to have given logistical and technical help to Nabi. Few of the accused individuals allegedly had links with Al-Falah University in Faridabad.
The NIA has already filed two charge sheets, stating the attack was being organised as part of a conspiracy that was underway and had been named ‘Operation Heavenly Hind’ which dates from 2022. A fresh chargesheet filed last month increased the count of the accused to 13 with three names.
In the official investigation, Nabi is alleged to have orchestrated the attack, assisted by a network of radicalised people, facilitators and logistics.
