Friday witnessed the death of a delivery executive in Wadrafnagar due to a tragic road accident, thus underscoring the increasing concerns regarding road safety. The accident happened in front of Ambedkar Chowk when a high-speed truck heading on the other side hit a motorcycle and killed the motorcycle rider instantly.
The victim is a man named Vikas Devangan who was a resident of the village of Badka in Chalgali region and was employed by a delivery service firm. Preliminary reports have it that he was heading out of Wadrafnagar to Mahewa to deliver goods when the accident occurred.
The witnesses claimed that the effects of the crash were very intense. The victim was fatally injured in the head, even though he wore a helmet. The crash allegedly left the rider being dragged by the truck over a long distance, causing panic among the people who witnessed the accident and resulted in a huge number of people thronging the scene.
Residents of the area called the police immediately, after which a group of the Wadrafnagar police outpost arrived at the scene. The body was arrested and sent to post-mortem examination. Police are on a search mission to locate the truck driver and confiscate the vehicle that was in the accident.
The accident has again cast doubts on careless driving and implementation of traffic laws in the country, and the people are urging the government to be tougher on speeding cars to avert these tragic accidents in future.
