Narayanpur-based Maoists in the Chhattisgarh state, as many as seven were reported dead after a faceoff with the security personnel. After a tough conflagration with security forces, the bodies of seven members of the Maoists, including two women,t were found in the Kanker district.
The skirmish achieved heights in the woodland of Abujhmad along the volatile but sensitive Narayanpur-Kanker border, where DRG and STF of Directorate General personnel responded to the firefight with suspected Maoists on 30 April. Sunderaj P, the IG Police for the Bastar range, collected information on this threshold that took place in the forested area on the Tekmeta–Kaakur routes in the Abhujmad forest around 6 am.
“An operation backed by DRG and STF units was carried out following a specific alert about their most significant Maoist representatives in the jungle. Upon the arrival in Kankur village, bullets started being fired. Further, the bodies of seven Maoists, including two women, were recovered on the the order of the IG.” In addition, he stressed that the mentioned AK-47 rifle and another set of weapons and explosives had been found on the reported crime scene.
This incident brings the tally of Naxalite casualties to 88 this year in various encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, encompassing seven districts, including Narayanpur and Kanker, as per police records. A police officer previously informed the news agency about the ongoing encounter between DRG, STF personnel, and Naxalites in the Abujhmad region of the Narayanpur-Kanker border.
The operation follows closely after a recent encounter where 29 Maoists, including senior leaders Shankar Rao and Lalita Meravi, were eliminated. Both held a reward of ₹8 lakh on their heads.
