Ghaziabad: Famous news anchor Rohit Ranjan was arrested today morning by the Chhattisgarh police in relation to a video played on a news show. The arrest took place in connection with the airing of an alleged “misleading” news over a statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Rohit Ranjan had tweeted about his arrest claiming that the Chhattisgarh Police has come to arrest him without informing the local police.

Sources reveal that the Chhattisgarh Police had entered his residence early morning to arrest him by policemen who were not in uniform. Around 15 police personnel from Chhattisgarh entered the home of the anchor in Indrapuram, Ghaziabad. The mobile phones of the security guards were seized and were not allowed to disperse the location.

Ghaziabad Police authorities have confirmed that action will be taken in accordance with the law and the matter will be overseen by the local authorities.

Earlier on Sunday, a case was registered against Ranjan and a few others based on the complaint filed by Congress MLA Devendra Yadav. Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told that the case was registered for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups.
