The police constable posted in Rajnandgaon has been arrested for allegedly putting people at a disadvantage by offering to provide them employment in police service in exchange for money. After obtaining a complaint from Balco Police Station in Korba, the accused, Digambar Prasad Kanwar of Korkoma (Balco district), has been arrested. He reportedly would receive financial contributions from people seeking jobs on the police force on the promise that he had the influence and was connected in the department in order to help those individuals work as officers.
The police investigation found that the accused was defrauding a victim of ₹1.25 lakh, apparently to help arrange for him to join the police force. The money was deposited in the constable’s brother’s bank account, and as part of the investigation officers seized ATM cards, bank passbooks and other banking papers.
The case was revealed when Ganeshi Rathia and another vill Kerakachhar resident claimed they received money from the constable without a guarantee of job, spurning the complaint.Incidentally, the case was brought to light after retiring constable was approached by the complainants Ganeshi Rathia and another Citlunir village resident, who raised a complaint that money was received by the constable without any assurance of work. Considering the complaint, Police have registered an FIR and bench appointed him as a suspect and handed him over to judicial custody.
Forcing himself into the image of an influential police officer, the accused often claimed that he had the power to influence recruitment, the preliminary finding showed, Prateek Chaturvedi told PTI. Photos of attractive women helped him win the trust of victims and convince them of his fraud scheme, according to investigators.
They have also reported to police officers in Rajnandgaon, where the constable was on duty. He is reportedly also separately subject to action in other case. As word of the arrest trickles out to other villages, officials believe there may be more victims from Korba and Rajnandgaon in the future.
Police is continuing its investigation and they’re questioning the accused and looking to see if there’s a bigger recruitment scam network involved. Anyone who may have been approached or deceived by similar promises or exploiting them has been advised to reach out to them and join the investigation.
