On Monday, a labour pickup vehicle carrying 30 labourers rolled over in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, injuring 19 people, including several minors and women.

The accident took place at the Nevra area within the Kotwali police station patrol when the driver of the pickup lost control of the vehicle and it veered into the road, causing an accident. The laborers were taking a trip together when this difficulty occurred.

Many of those who were injured were found to be suffering from “hand and head injuries” in the crash, local authorities said. Emergency teams were immediately rushed to the site and took the patients to the District Hospital at Surajpur for treatment upon receiving information on the situation.

According to hospital officials, most of the injured are being treated by the doctors, and one of the labourers who had been suffering from a critical condition has been sent to Ambikapur for advanced treatment.

It is spelled out in multiple warnings and government actions over the last few years that there are concerns about the unsafe transport of passengers, including minors who are on board.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Theories of loss of vehicle control seem to have been suggested in the early reports, but all details are being investigated, such as the condition of the car and the conditions of travelling.

Authorities said they would take more action in light of the investigation results. The accident has brought into sharp focus the dangers of transporting large numbers of labourers in rural areas in overcrowding conveyances.
