Bijapur: An assistant police constable was murdered in Bijapur, CG on Sunday afternoon, a police official said. The deceased is reported to have been attacked by a group of Maoists in the weekly market in his locality.
The deceased was identified as Gopal Kadti, a resident of Mirtur village who was attacked while on his way to the market in civvies after getting relieved from his sentry duties at the police station close by, police said.
Bastar IG Sundarraj confirmed the attack was initiated by unidentified Maoists. “The modus operandi of the attack suggests it was executed by a small action team of Naxals. A police team has launched a search in the area to trace the attackers,” he said.
The weekly market of Mirtur village is held every Sunday in the vicinity of the police station where Kadti was posted.
Less than a month ago, Maoists had killed a tribal in Madded area of Bijapur alleging that he was a police informer.
