Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla arrived in Raipur on a one-day visit to Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, where he is scheduled to participate in several events, including a major programme organised by the Jain community.
Union minister of state Tokhan Sahu, MP Brijmohan Agrawal and state minister Kedar Kashyap excitedly greeted Birla at Raipur Airport. On his arrival, he straight away visited Lok Bhavan in the act of his official visit.
The Lok Sabha Speaker attended the Acharya Padarohan function at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium as per the programme. The event was a success, with many members of the Jain community participating, including members of the clergy, community activists and dignitaries from various areas of the region.
Once the ceremony was over, Birla went back to the Lok Bhavan for formal commitments. He is also likely to attend another event made on Shanti Nagar locality of Raipur in the evening before returning to Lok Bhavan.
During his brief visit to the state, Birla’s involvement with social, cultural and community based programmes is highlighted. Expect him to meet several local leaders and public representatives during his visit.
There will be several engagements in the city and the visit is limited to one day, officials said. Security arrangements were tightened-up at key venues in order to maintain the smooth conduct of the programmes.
Birla will complete his duties at Raipur and next head to New Delhi in the evening from the Swami Vivekananda Airport.
His visit has been noted by members of the political fraternity, community groups and people relationists as he was seen in the prominent Jain community function which took place at the State Capital.
