Bilaspur: The victim, Dr Pooja Chaurasia, died in April 2024 under questionable circumstances, and her mother has written a letter to the High Court requesting an unbiased probe. The court has ordered CID to provide a free investigation and complete it within eight weeks of the hearing, per the attachment. The hearing occurred standing before the chief justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal.
Assistant surgeon of Bilaspur District Hospital, Dr Pooja Chaurasia, was flogged and injured and was said to have been brought to the hospital by her husband, Dr Aniket Kaushik, with gym trainer Suraj Pandey. While probing into the matter, the local police have detained Suraj Pandey under section 306 of IPC concerning abetment of suicide. However, questions have been asked about the efficiency of the police in this aspect.
The mother of the deceased, Reeta Chaurasia, has complained that there is prejudice in the investigation as her daughter-in-law’s father-in-law is a well-to-do doctor in the city. This is perhaps why she feels her daughter is dead, not a natural death but rather a well-planned and horrible murder. The petition states that the case be forwarded to an investigation agency apart from the police since their findings are being relied on.
Additionally, the petition also stresses that before death, Dr. Pooja Chaurasia had seven injuries on her body, and there was no elaboration regarding them. Such contradiction made Reeta Chaurasia urge and doubt the police probe that was made earlier. These worries and uncertainties ensure that this case invites a CID investigation as directed by the High Court to meet all the intended requirements and possibly even warrant re-classifying the crime under Section 302 of the IPC relevant to murder.
