Raipur: In Chattisgarh, there is a historical temple of Shani Dev, and on the 4th of August, Shani Dev’s birthday on Hariyali Amavasya will be celebrated in a grand manner. This old temple is situated at Chudi Line in Sadar Bazaar, and the annual festival of this temple is truly celebrated according to ancient customs and traditions.

The temple priest, Pandit Rohit Sharma, said that the occasion has been observed joyously and colourfully since antiquity and will also be the same this year. Staging for the event has been done, and people will start getting there early in the morning. Following are the activities of the day – Aarti, Hawan (Sacred Fire Rituals offering) and the Bhandara (Sponsor Communal Dinner). Finally, at 7: 30 pm, there will be a Mahaarati with the beats of the traditional drums to mark the culmination of the celebration. Furthermore, there are arrangements for bhajan sandhya, where devotional songs (bhajans) and a special cultural display known as jhanki are arranged.

This temple remains sacred to the believers who, for generations, have faith in God Shani Dev, who helps his people to make their wishes come true. Many come from nearby areas and from distant places to obtain blessings and be part of the yearly rite.

Pandit Sharma also called on all the devotees who are willing to partake in supporting the needs of the celebration, namely, the decorations of the temple, the feast, and the devotional programs. They can do so by proceeding to the temple and receiving a receipt for any amount of money they give for this cause, thus contributing to this noble project.

Moreover, devotees can pray to light a lamp for the accomplishment of their wishes and perform an oil offering to Shani Dev on Hariyali Amavasya in their name or their family members and gain merits. The temple, devoted to Lord Shani Dev, still holds the tradition of helping people find the divine power inside them.
