Satna. A fire broke out for unknown reasons in the forest of compartments P-839 and P-840 of the Dewalaha Beat near Rohaniya village in the Majhgawan Range of the district’s Forest Division. The fire quickly spread, engulfing approximately 15 to 20 hectares of forest. Two forest workers also fell unconscious while trying to extinguish the fire.

According to Ranger-in-Charge Abhishek Mishra, the fire was primarily concentrated in bushes and lantana, but spread rapidly due to strong winds and dry Tulsi bushes. Seeing the situation, the entire Forest Department staff arrived at the scene and a firefighting operation was launched. The severity of the fire can be gauged from the 10- to 12-foot-high flames.

Controlled with the help of fire beaters and leaf blowers

Twenty-five security workers, using fire beaters and leaf blowers, fought for seven hours continuously, finally bringing the fire under control by 8 p.m. While extinguishing the fire, two forest workers, Ramkrishna Pandey and Govind Yadav, fainted due to lack of oxygen and the extreme heat. They were immediately admitted to the Government Hospital in Majhgawan, where they were discharged about three hours later after receiving first aid.
