Chhattisgarh Congress president Deepak Baij has faulted the Narendra Modi government for thrusting its restrictions into the face of a protest in the new capital, alleging it has violated democratic rights and tried to silence dissent from the people.
In his statement to the media, Deepak Baij stated that this report had been orchestrated by Delhi as it had “chilled” people’s flow to prompt them to attend a peaceful protest. He said they have made a good effort to barricade the roads and people were being checked thoroughly; even ambulances were being restricted. The protest will go on till Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi step down, he said.
In his reply to the BJP’s allegations that the central government was trying to “hijack” the Constitution, Baij singled out the Election Commission and the government for “remodelling” democratic institutions. He pointed out that the public protests were due to increasing discontent and invited Modi and Kumar to step down.
Baij also raised doubts about the supply of sugarcane at ₹425 per quintal as declared by the Chhattisgarh government. The farmers were suffering from hardship and the workers were equally not being paid on time and it did not solve the issues as stated he by the farmers.
The Congress leader questioned the government’s assertion of creating almost 10,000 job opportunities at a recruitment hosting. He said that a hundred thousand posts were left vacant and claimed that the government still hadn’t recruited 5,000 posts. He charged government of deceiving young people with regards to employment opportunities.
Baij also slammed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on his visit, accusing the Railway Affairs of having a serious problem in the country. He raised National Highways Development Corporation’s cost of launching new trains in Chhattisgarh while drawing the attention of the services from Delhi side, he said.
Baij also raised concerns with regard to grain diversion and alleged transfer of forest resources to favourites in the industry, after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi proposed he would visit the state of Chhattisgarh soon. He asked the state minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal to answer these questions.
No comments were received on recent claims from the BJP and government regarding its “grooming” of Baij.
