Raipur: Chhattisgarh Congress MLA Daleshwar Sahu has tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday. This is the first time, a case have emerged of a public representative testing positive for Covid-19 infection in the state.

According to the sources, the MLA attended a funeral a few days ago where a person was tested positive for Covid-19. Subsequently, the MLA underwent the test and was found positive. Sahu represents Dongarhgaon constituency in Rajnandgaon district of the state.

This news has triggered panic among the political circle in Congress, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) along with state assembly staff as the infected MLA attended the meeting held in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly today.  

The meeting was attended by the Chhattisgarh assembly chief secretary Chandrashekhar Gangarade, Congress MLAs Kuldeep Juneja, Gurudayal Banjare and Paras Rajwade, BJP legislators Ajay Chandrakar and Shivratan Sharma were also present in the meeting.

All the people who attended the meeting are being quarantined and further their sample will be tested as per the guidelines of health ministry.

Earlier, a security guard of Chhattisgarh chief minister’s residence in the state capital, seven security personnel including four Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were found positive for COVID-19 infection last week.

Chhattisgarh state has witnessed novel Corona virus infected count to 2274 reported in the last three months, which includes 823 active cases and 1421 people have recovered from the disease. Besides this, three persons have died of covid-19 while eight others were dead due to associated co-morbidity.
