Baghel made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for the plant at Ghantaghar ground in Korba. He said that the plant would be a “fitting tribute” to Rajiv Gandhi, who had a “special” relationship with Chhattisgarh. CM Baghel tweeted a video declaring the station to be named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

“Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary leader who had a deep understanding of the importance of energy for the development of the country,” Baghel said. “He was also a strong advocate of sustainable development, and this plant will be built using the latest super critical technology, which will make it one of the most efficient thermal power plants in the country.”

The plant is expected to be completed in 2028-29. Once operational, it will generate enough electricity to meet the needs of over 10 lakh households in Chhattisgarh.

Baghel also announced that the state government would set up a Rajiv Gandhi Skill Development University in Korba. The university will offer courses in various trades, including electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering.

“The university will be a major boost to the skill development ecosystem in Chhattisgarh,” Baghel said. “It will help to create a skilled workforce that can meet the needs of the growing industries in the state.”

The announcement of the thermal power plant and the skill development university was welcomed by the people of Korba. They said that the projects would boost the economic development of the region and create jobs for the local youth.

Baghel’s announcement is a fitting tribute to Rajiv Gandhi, who had a special relationship with Chhattisgarh. The projects announced by Baghel will help to make Chhattisgarh a more prosperous and developed state.
