School teachers in Chhattisgarh staged a statewide protest on Tuesday to demand resignation from the authorities with the slogan ‘TET Mukti’ at district headquarters and school authorities in the state took a rally each from their campuses. The teachers sent a memorandum to the district collectors to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister, Education Secretary and DPI dealing with issues of security of services, salaries and rules of recruitment.
The teachers presented five points of demand: abolition of the compulsory examination of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) for the appointment, counting of their service in the previous knowledge institution for pension eligibility, implementation of the central pay scales to address the disparity in salaries, B.Ed training for D.Ed-qualified teachers through bridge courses and withdrawal of the 2026 recruitment and promotion rules.
Teachers took part in rallies in various parts of the state with the heavy rainfall. The chairpersons of Shikshak Sangharsh Morcha contended that the teachers who got appointed till the advent of the TET requirement should not be asked after many years of service to appear now for the examination.
The protesters voiced concern about job security and stress, saying that they were uncertain about their jobs and that may impact classroom instruction and class learning. The teachers appealed to the state government to bring forth the matter and offer a permanent solution for their concerns and to do away with the TET requirement for previously appointed teachers.
