Raipur– Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel recently introduced GPS-based software for tracking vehicles. The main objective of this technology is to ensure the safety of women and students who travel on buses within the state. This initiative is a step towards enhancing passenger security.
The government has also established a command and control centre in conjunction with the vehicle tracking platform to strengthen safety measures further. Panic buttons will be installed in both passenger and school buses. This program aims to protect women and students during their bus journeys.
In case of any incidents on a bus, passengers can immediately alert the control room. Dial 112 services are part of the state’s emergency response support system by pressing the panic button. This feature will enable real-time information sharing, including details about the bus’s location and speed, facilitating response and assistance.
Apart from addressing driver misconduct issues, implementing panic buttons is expected to reduce risks related to incidents involving women and students on buses. The GPS control centre for this system has been set up in Raipur to ensure monitoring capabilities and swift responses.
The Transport Department of Chhattisgarh has also announced plans to install GPS systems and panic buttons in buses so that passengers can access real-time information about their bus whereabouts.
The state has around 12,000 passenger buses owned by operators and cover routes. Additionally, 6,000 school buses transport students from schools and colleges. Implementing panic buttons and GPS technology will offer passengers bus information, ensuring safety and convenience.
