Chhattisgarh: IAS Officer booked for Raping an NGO worker; CM demands high level investigation

Chhattisgarh: An FIR has been lodged against an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer on Wednesday in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champ district for raping a 33-year-old Ngo worker by threatening to dismiss her husband from the service while his tenure as Janjgir Collector, police said.

According to the victim, she met Janak Prasad Pathak, then collector of Janjgir, in connection with some NGO work. The Collector assured her and on pretext of helping, took her mobile number. He used to send obscene messages, videos and photos etc. on her number and call her everyday.

Pathak sexually exploited her in the collectorate premises after threatening to sack her husband, she added.

The accused, Janak Prasad Pathak, who was a former collector of Janjgir-Champa district and currently the Director of Land Records has been  booked under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 B (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman).

However, the Bureaucrat was unavailable to comment on the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel has condemned this heinous act severely. He has urged Chief secretary R.P Mandal to immediately sack the concerned officer and has also ordered to conduct a high level investigation for this case.
