The state government in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has received investment proposals valued at Rs 13,840 crore during ‘Chhattisgarh Industry Dialogue on Green Steel’. Approximately 10,921 jobs (both direct and indirect) are anticipated from the proposed projects. CM Vishnu Deo Sai was the chief guest at the event.
The steel and mining is a solid base of Chhattisgarh’s industry which will continue to be the valuable force of the state, said CM Sai. He further added that now it is time to nurture a new phase of the industrial development of the region based on this foundation and maximise value addition in Chhattisgarh.
He said it is imperative the steel be not exported in raw state. Conversely, it should be processed locally into exportable intermediary and specialized products, for example auto parts, engineering products, machines for rail lines, defense products and equipment for the production of solar energy. The state would need to derive more value from its agriculture, which in turn would generate better employment opportunities for its citizens, Sai has said.
Chhattisgarh has a good opportunity to leverage the worldwide trend towards green steel and zero carbon production, Chief Minister said. The state has over 26,000MW of electricity who have a competitive impacts on power costs to downstream manufacturers who consume high capacity electricity, making the state an attractive location for economic manufacturing.
Sai also assured about the Chhattisgarh Industrial Development Policy 2024-30 which has provided new investment avenues. In the last 18 months, the state has got investment proposals valued at approximately ₹8 lakh crore. These include investments, besides the classic ones (steel, mining, etc.), also in the emerging ones (AI, DataCenters, semiconductors, Pharmaceuticals, Textiles and Agro-processing).
The State government has also carried out certain reforms to increase the ease of doing business. In order to foster “Ease of Doing Business”, Chhattisgarh has become the first State to introduce ‘Ease of Doing Business act’ covering ‘deemed to comply’ facility coming into effect for low-risk enterprises, risk-based regulation mechanism, etc. when companies do not apply for approval within the specified time limit. This reform is likely to increase employment to approximately 15 lakh direct and indirect for MSMEs in the State.
Chhattisgarh also occupied the first rank in ‘Regulatory Ease’ and ‘Institutional Environment’ and the second rank in ‘Environmental Resilience’ in the recently released CRISIL Investment Friendliness Index 2026 by NITI Aayog. The state has also got the ‘GeM Sustainable Procurement Award’ at the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) 10th anniversary celebrations held in New Delhi recently.
The government is also planning to diversify its industrial development beyond the conventional industrial corridor of Raipur-Bhilai. Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Janjgir-Champa and Bastar have had four additional industrial parks approved.
The Centre has also sanctioned an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Rajnandgaon that has an area of around 306 acres. It is calculated that the project will generate about 9,000 jobs and large-scale investments, and the semiconductor, electric vehicle and smart electronics industries are interested in the cluster.
