Police in the Chhattisgarh Durg district detained a property dealer after he threatened a family with death, and tried to illegally seize their land through intimidation.

The incident is the duty of Mohan Nagar Police Station.

On 27th July, Pravinder Singh Chane had approached the Durg Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) regarding illegal possession of land by the property dealer Lakhan Singh who was pressurizing the family to transfer the possession to him, according to the complaint.

Complainant alleged that he was scared by the accused’s display of a gun and created an atmosphere of fear to deceive those closest to him into selling the property.

Based on orders received from the SSP, the police officers from Mohan Nagar took up the case related to the allegation.

In the course of the probe, cops reportedly gathered some prints that showed the accused was trying to take possession of the land, and was threatening the complainant’s family. Based on the said findings and complaint presented by Pravinder Singh, an FIR was lodged against Lakhan Singh.

Later the accused was arrested by police officers for threatening the family, wrongfully taking possession of the property.

Investigators claimed that Lakhan Singh intentionally instilled terror in the complainant’s family members for forcing them to hand over land.

The man allegedly involved in the land grab attempt is still in police custody, and further investigations are on-going to see if others had also made similar complaints against the man.
