Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel strongly criticised the BJP in anticipation of the assembly polls. He firmly stated that the BJPs strategy of “divide and rule” would not work in Chhattisgarh. Baghel also directed his criticism towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who accused the Congress party of engaging in “politics to secure votes in the state elections.

Speaking to reporters at Raipurs Swami Vivekananda Airport, he emphasised that the opposition BJP lacks issues to address in the state. The assembly elections for the 90 member legislature are scheduled for November 7 and 17 in two phases.

The ruling Congress party has already announced candidates for 30 constituencies in Chhattisgarh. During an election rally in Rajnandgaon Shah criticised the Congress government for violence that occurred in Biranpur village back in April. He alleged that if reelected the ruling party would continue with their “politics.

In response to Shah’s comments Baghel highlighted that action had been taken regarding the Biranpur incident. The accused have been arrested, a chargesheet has been filed and compensation has been provided to the victim by the government. He argued that by addressing issues faced by people BJP focuses only on areas where they claim expertise.

According to CM the Union Home Minister’s statement, about executing individuals involved in corruption during the Congress rule if the BJP were to assume power was perceived as a threat to his government.
