In Bilaspur of Chhattisgarh, tension is gripping the town after two groups fought violently and had an argument over a controversial social media comment on Friday night. The Collector Sanjay Agrawal had imposed ‘prohibitory orders’ in City Kotwali police station area under Section 144 of the police act to restore law and order after the incident.
Weapons like swords, knives, sticks and spears are no longer be allowed in public places, under the order of the administration. Exemptions have been granted for those under the age of 65, who are differently abled and using walking sticks, and those carrying the kirpans for religious purposes, while on official duty.
The order also bans any unauthorized assemblies, rallies, processions, protests and strikes and strikes. However, gathering in numbers of over four people has been limited at any place except in everyday circumstances, where the movements of family members remains unaffected. To organize activities, the permission of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate will be necessary.
Damage to public or private property and vandalism, road blockades and acts designed to create fear are also forbidden. Persons who commit such offences may be subjected to the action provided in Section 223 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
What was the cause of the Clash?
The controversy reportedly stemmed from a contentious comment posted on an Instagram post. This dispute became an issue, after which two groups came on a face-to-face confrontation in the heart of the City Kotwali area. Members of either side were yelling slogans, which caused tension in the locality.
As soon as police received information on the encounter they immediately arrived at the scene. Police and administrative officers Sanjay Agrawal, senior police and administration officials, along with trailers, also rushed to the scene.
This is all while a large police force has been dispatched to keep things from getting even worse. A local MLA Sushant Shukla and local residents also turned up at the police station where discussions were held with police. Ages are counseling the youths for their safety, and to restore comfort to the spot.
