Raipur: As the assembly elections for Chhattisgarh is approaching close, today marks the last day for filing nomination for the first phase of assembly elections. On the fifth day of nomination, 114 nomination papers were filled. Till now 127 candidates have filled 201 nomination forms.
Earlier on Thursday, 64 nomination papers were filed for 20 assembly constituencies of the first phase of assembly election 2023 in Chhattisgarh. After this, a total of 60 candidates filed 87 nomination papers for the first phase.
Maximum 6-6 in Pandariya and Bhanupratappur assembly constituencies, 5-5 in Kanker and Dantewada, 4-4 in Kawardha, Dongargaon and Antagarh, 3-3 in Khairagarh, Mohla-Manpur, Keshkal, Bastar, Bijapur and Konta, while Dongargarh. Two nomination papers each have been filed in Rajnandgaon, Khujji, Kondagaon, Narayanpur and Chitrakote. Whereas no nomination papers were filed for Jagdalpur assembly constituency on Wednesday.
The 2023 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election will be held in two phases on November 7 and November 17, 2023. The counting of votes will be done on December 3, 2023.
In the first phase, voting will be held in 12 constituencies of Bastar division including 8 assembly constituencies; for Konta, Bijapur, Dantewada, Chitrakote, Jagdalpur, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Keshkal, Kanker, Bhanupratapur, Antagarh, Mohla-Manpur, Khujji, Dongargaon, Rajnandgaon, Dongargarh, Khairagarh, Kawardha and Pandariya assembly constituencies.
The incumbent party in the state is the Indian National Congress (INC), led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The INC won the 2018 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election with a majority of 68 seats in the 90-member assembly. Congress seems to be confident of their win. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel tweeted a video on X with the caption “Congress government agian”.
The main opposition party in the state is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP was in power in Chhattisgarh for 15 years before being defeated by the INC in the 2018 election.
Other parties that are expected to contest the 2023 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election include the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].
