Chhattisgarh: Amid the Coronavirus crisis, on Wednesday, 15 junior resident doctors of Mekahara Hospital, Raipur has resigned. The lack of basic personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and untimely salary has led to healthcare workers to resign.
“There is no safety system in the hospital to prevent the adverse effect of coronavirus on doctors. Work has been put at risk. Though we are encouraged by senior doctors, but they also do not stay in the hospital. Only junior doctors are being rubbed in.” , said a junior doctor.
He also informed that the order government had issued earlier stated that all the interns should be promoted to junior doctors to curb the virus but there is no proper joining letter provided to them. He further said that there are more doctors who are set to resign today.
“Untimely salary has led to take this decision. Earlier, government had issued an order that all the interns should be promoted to junior doctors to curb the virus but there is no proper joining letter provided to us. This is the reason that 15 junior doctors have resigned on Wednesday. Even today more than a dozen people will go to resign.” The junior doctor said.
In this case, the Dean of the Medical College Vishnu Dutt told Lalluram.com that “yesterday the junior doctors have handed me the resignation letter. At present, Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) has been enforced in the state, so their resignation has not been accepted.”
This raises question over the preparedness of government-run hospitals all over the state.
Meanwhile, There are several instances of poor protection for doctors across the country who are examining suspected cases of the novel coronavirus disease wearing ordinary masks with no proper kits.
