Raipur: People across India are staying indoors during national lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Though the measures are yielding positive results, it is a dangerous scenario for women who are facing domestic violence.

According to India’s National Commission for Women(NCW), the number of distress calls have been shoot up amid the nationwide lockdown . Reportedly, the NCW received 1000+ calls on its helpline.

“Domestic violence cases have doubled than what it was before the lockdown. The cases of domestic violence are high in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Punjab,” says NCW chief Rekha Sharma.

In lieu of fighting against domestic violence, Raipur police has newly launched an initiative “चुप्पी_तोड़” for raipur people to report domestic abuse.

Arif sheikh, SSP, Raipur police, took to his twitter handle to announce this great initiative. He urged people not to be a victim or spectator of domestic abuse and raise your voice against this horrific crime by reporting it on the helpline number “+91-9479190167”
