Raipur: Being interrogated by the Legislative Assembly about the rate of accident in the state, the Home Minister of the state of Chhattisgarh, Tamradhwaj Sahu, has given a written reply, which reveals that around 9,020 people have died in road accidents in the state in the past 2 years, while 3,615 of the victims have gotten severely injured.
A total of 24,168 accident cases took place on the roads and highways of Chhattisgarh in the 2 years, starting from January 1, 2019, and ending on November 30, 2020.
The written report also reveals the number of accidents in different districts, whereas the state capital tops in the count, with a total of 895 accidents in two years.
The count in Raipur is followed by Bilaspur (652), Rajnandgaon (569), Raigarh (513), Janjgir-Champa (487), Balodabazar (436), Korba (428), Mahasamund (421), Durg (391), Surajpur (370) – as per the written reply.
Several reviews were taken at different levels, which proved that most of the accidents took place because of frequent violation of traffic norms and the tendency of reckless driving among the youngsters.
