The Bengaluru Police have detained the first of the alleged perpetrators of the toddler abuse at a daycare in the midst of the Capgemini campus after the viral videos surfaced to outrage not only the general public, but many employees of the firm too.
Vijayalaxmi, who works at the daycare centre, is the same worker she spotted in the videos where she allegedly physically abused kids, according to reports.
Police have filed a case against her on relevant clauses of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
However, the investigation is continuing and further action may be considered as a result of it based on the evidence that has been gathered in the course of the investigation, officials said.
There are also letters to others who appeared in the viral videos and were involved in the daycare asking them to come in for questioning with the investigating officer.
Three daycare workers are being questioned Thursday as part of the investigation. Police have also spoken with a handful of parents to obtain statements and further evidence from their kids.
The daycare scandal has come with significant implications for child safety policies and procedures in daycare programs that are run from corporate campuses. The authorities have reassured everyone that the investigation will be followed up and judicial action will be initiated against those who are deemed responsible.
