A pensioner of Bihar was shocked after his bank statement showed a balance of over Rs 700 crore during a transaction to collect his pension. The incident, which happened in Muzaffarpur, had turned out to be an alleged technical failure.
Kameswar Mishra, who gets a monthly social security pension of Rs 1,100, had been at the bank for regular pension-related obligations along with his deaf and mute son. He withdrew the pension amount, then asked the bank personnel for a balance of his account.
Mishraу reportedly had an outstanding balance of Rs 7,59,69,51,951.16 on the Core Banking System (CBS). That figure was also almost the same in his son’s account as well, which would make the total of their displayed balance exceed Rs 1,500 crore.
The incidence of unexpected good fortune left Mishra, “shocked and confused. “Upon viewing figures on the system, the bank staff were also amazed,” he said.
But this was short-lived excitement. Officials in the bank checked the balance, and then the erroneous balance was removed from both accounts, restoring their correct balances to these official accounts.
Afterwards, a bank internal investigation commenced to find out why the example was being shown. Initial reports indicate that the incident was a banking/electronic error or software bug.
The strange event in Bihar has garnered much get up on social media, in which people are puzzled by the brief stability. Investigators will be able to finalize their investigation and determine just what caused the bank error.
