During a joint crackdown by the Bongaigaon Police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) at New Bongaigaon Railway Station in the Bongaigaon district of Assam, nine Bangladeshi nationals were caught, officials stated.
The initial arrest at railway station’s vicinity was of six persons who were taken into custody after further inquiry and searches by the team three additional members in the group were arrested, Bongaigaon SSP Numal Mahatta said. Police said the preliminary questioning led to the conclusion that all the nine were Bangladeshi nationals.
Bangladeshi Passport, Suspected Fake Aadhaar Cards Recovered
The group had with them six mobile phones, four Bangladeshi national identity cards and one Bangladeshi passport, as well as three suspected fake ID cards in the name of Aadhar and five railway tickets, police said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the nine had come into Assam from an adjoining state and were heading towards another destination from New Bongaigaon. The group was supposedly travelling to work, officials said. The detainees are being interrogated as police are probing into their entry into Assam and their intended target.
It was done by Bongaigaon Police with the help of the GRP at New Bongaigaon Railway Station. Police vowed more action would be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
27 Bangladeshi Nationals Held Earlier In Assam
The racially-Mogat elements have been arrested by police and railway officials in Assam, weeks after 27 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in different raids across Guwahati and Rangiya.
The group comprised of men, women and minors, who were allegedly staying in Assam without proof of their right to reside in India, authorities said. The gang was reportedly in Meghalaya making Assam as their transit state, said police.
Police stated that investigation and legal action will be used to find out the status and then action in those instances. The recently arrested Bongaigaon gang is under investigation including ascertainment of recovered documents and the circumstances when the group came in Assam.
