Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Sunday delivered a sensational batting display in the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A, scoring a blistering 94 runs off just 29 balls and narrowly missing out on a century. Opening the innings, Sooryavanshi tore into the Sri Lanka A bowling attack, striking 10 fours and eight sixes in an innings that set the tone for India A’s strong start after Sri Lanka A won the toss and opted to bowl. He reached his half-century in just 11 balls, registering the fastest fifty in List A cricket history. In the process, he broke the long-standing record of Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne, who had scored a 12-ball fifty 21 years ago.

Sooryavanshi’s aggressive approach gave India A immediate momentum in the high-pressure final, as he continued to dominate the Sri Lankan bowlers with clean hitting all around the ground. His knock included a rapid flurry of boundaries, with five fours and five sixes coming during his explosive race to fifty.

Despite his dominant innings, the teenager fell short of a milestone century, getting dismissed for 94 off 29 balls by Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige in the ninth over. His dismissal ended a breathtaking innings that had already placed India A in a commanding position early in the contest.

The final came after a heated build-up between the two sides, following their earlier encounter in the Tri-Nation Series in Dambulla, where Sri Lanka A won a Super Over thriller which reportedly saw tense on-field moments involving Sooryavanshi, adding further intensity to the final showdown between the two teams.

The innings adds to Sooryavanshi’s rapidly rising profile in Indian cricket. Earlier this month, he received his maiden call-up to India’s T20I squad for upcoming tours and the Asian Games 2026.

At 15 years and 71 days, he became the youngest player to be selected for India’s men’s team, breaking a long-standing record previously associated with legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar. If he makes his international debut, Sooryavanshi will become the youngest player to represent India in men’s international cricket, surpassing existing age records in T20Is and ODIs held by former players including Washington Sundar and Tendulkar.
