Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth lost the BWC’s in the men’s singles finale to Singapore’s Loh Kean in Huvela Spain on Sunday. However, Srikanth became the first Indian man to take home a silver from the feat joining the league with bronze holder Prakash Padukone, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen.
Srikanth’s lead tumbled after the mid-game break when Loh fought back taking the lead at 21-15. The second game saw a tight competition before Srikanth was outclassed. On Saturday, Srikanth cruised past compatriot Lakhsya Sen in Semi’s stepping ahead towards the maiden finale. A thrilling contest lasted between the two shuttlers for 0ne hour nine minutes, which secure Srikanth a place in the finals.
Speaking on his achievement at the tournament, Srikanth said, “ In few tournaments, I played really well and in few tournaments, I couldn’t play well this year, but again, to reach the final of a world championship is something, that I really worked hard for, and I am really happy to be here today.” “It has been a great week. Even today I had my chances in both the games. I had a healthy lead in first game and, even in second game, I had an 18-16 cushion. I was not able to finish the match today. Loh played really well, he further added.”
