New delhi :  In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the most awaited friendly tournament of the year, 2020 edition of the Indian premier league (IPL) is set to begin on 19 September 2020 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the final slated on November 8. 

IPL will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the final will be held in November ( Sunday). It is a 51 day window which will suit the franchise as well as the broadcaster and other stakeholder, the senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity on Thursday night. 

Brijesh Patel, IPL governing Council chairman, informed on Friday (July 24),  that the tournament will be held in UAE , pending clearance from the Indian government. The IPL governing council will meet next week to check out the final details and approve the schedule. It is understood that the BCCI has informally intimated the franchises about the plan. 

BCCI has zeroed in on the UAE as the venue for the 13 th edition of the tournament after long deliberations of hosting it in India had failed following the worsening of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. 

The Emirates cricket board, and SLC, had approached the BCCI with the offer of playing host to the IPL, stating that they had the required infrastructure for it. With the offer of playing host to the IPL Stating that they had the required infrastructure for it. With the ICC postponing the men’s T20 WC  — originally  scheduled to be held from October 18  to November 15 a window opened up for IPL to be held.

Further details and the plan of departure for terms and the full schedule of the tournament will be chalked out at the IPL Governing Council meeting next week.
