MS Dhoni relinquishes captaincy of CSK and picked up Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team, who has been an integral part of the team for 6 years. The announcement came two days before the IPL 2022 is scheduled in commence. CSK will be the first franchise to kick start the season locking horns with KKR at Wankhede stadium Mumbai.
Soon after the news came, Twitter went into a state of meltdown, as congratulatory messages kept pouring in. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan joined the bandwagon in congratulating the Team India all-rounder and also wished him luck for his new role.
Dhoni has been a part of the franchise since the inaugural season of IPL and captained four matches in his 12 seasons as skipper. In the previous series, CSK defeated KKR to clinch the title. He is the one and only player to lead over 200 matches in the IPL and holds the record for most appearances in the playoff and the Final of the IPL. The team, under his leadership, has won 121 of those matches, while lost 82 encounters. Besides Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, Dhoni is the only captain to win multiple IPL titles. He is the joint-highest with Rohit Sharma in terms of total trophies – six.
New cap Jadeja has played 200 matches in the IPL format so far and has registered 2386 runs with a high score of 62. He has taken 127 wickets including three 4-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul. In the last season, Jadeja smacked 227 runs in 16games and also picked up 13 wickets.
