On Tuesday, the nation’s fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri, was given to Indian cricket icon Rohit Sharma by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The former Indian captain was one of 65 luminaries honoured on the second stage of the ceremony of the Padma Awards. Hockey ace Savita Punia was also awarded the Padma Shri and tennis legend Vijay Amritraj was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan.

Due to work engagements and personal obligations Rohit could not attend the first phase of the Awards ceremony in May. He was accompanied by his wife Ritika Sajdeh, who was spotted here on the stage as the Indian cricketer received the honour with pride this time.

Rohit was dressed up in a black bandhgala suit when he was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before he was presented with the award by President Murmu. The Mumbai hitter was seen smiling all throughout the event while posing for selfies with other winners and dignitaries.

Rohit’s cricket journey for Indian cricket has been lots and lots of. He has led India in all three formats including captaining them to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With the retirement from Test cricket and T20 Internationals, Rohit has been called up to India’s T20 team, widely considered one of the best white-ball cricketers of all time.

This Padma Shri honor is another feather in Rohit’s cricket cap.
