Sports: Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya on Thursday, brought India its silver second medal after a narrow defeat in Men’s Freestyle 57 kgs final against ROC’s Zavur Uguev.
In the first period of the match, Ravi trailed with a score of 2-4 against the two time defending world champion. However, the Indian wrestler took the lead later and increased the score to 7-2 failing to score gold with just three points in the final bout.
Dahiya emulated Olympian Sushil Kumar, who had last won the wrestling silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He is also a bronze medalist at the 2019 World Championships.
Dahiya in 2013 defeated Colombia Oscar Eduardo and Gerogi Valentinov of Bulgaria in the pre-quarters and quarters respectively.
In the meanwhile, Deepak Punia, a young Haryanvi lad, experienced a narrow miss of bronze against San Marinos Myles Amine. In his maiden Olympics bout, Punia scored 2-4 in Men’s Freestyle 86kg bronze medal match.
Earlier today, the India Men’s Hockey team clinched a bronze after 41 years.
