The second day of the Ranji Trophy delivered some of the best batting and brilliant bowling matches, with a few teams holding a firm grip on the game progresses over the remainder of the tournament.

Madhav Kaushik and Rinku Singh struck centuries from the two balls, and Uttar Pradesh found plenty of room to build a mammoth 540 in the opening innings in Ranji Trophy. They are contributing to developing UP’s platform and giving their opponents some tough competition.

The batters enjoyed productive day too, too in Jharkhand with 587 against Kerala. The big addition gave Jharkhand a head start as the competition loomed.

Sudip Gharami and Abishek Porel bested Delhi with unbeaten knocks to bring Bengal up two runs. Their collaboration put Bengal in the driving seat and helped them keep the momentum.

Andhra also took the lead over Karnataka, continuing the tight battle between the two states.

Mumbai were one of the most dazzling performances of the day with their bowlers. They were able to eliminate Chandigarh for mere 78 runs and bounce back to register the follow on, putting their rivals on square one. Tushar Deshpande emerged as a star and scored a hat trick as Mumbai smacked hard.

As Tripura waned to 99/7 on getting it round in two innings, Hyderabad consolidated their lead. In the end, Tripura would have to come up with a more daunting task to regain their dominance and clash with Hyderabad after their seven-wicket loss.

Elsewhere, Assam bounced back against Punjab’s attack to bounce back to 373. Both the Haryana and Gujarat batting sides continued in the first innings in both their respective matches.

Day 2 saw a blend of big total and individual milestones as well as important acts of control. Batting department’s Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand demonstrated quality and Bengal received the helping bowlers from two unbeaten 100s, Mumbai’s Deshpande proved to be a hat-trick bowler and his men made a huge impact on Chandigarh with a devastating 218-scoring spell.

Throughout the remainder of the games, the questions will be whether the players in charge can be successful with their superior positions or not.
