Melbourne, Australia: The ongoing t20 World Cup has seen some amazing games being played by cricket maestros of each team. Be it Virat’s unbeaten 82 in the Ind-Pak match or Marcus Stoinis’ fastest Century against Sri Lanka in yesterday’s match, every game is thrilling in its own way.
But rain played spoilsport in today’s match where New Zealand and Afghanistan were to face each other in Group 1’s super 12 matches. Not a single ball has been played because of rain and that is why each team gets one point. With this, Afghanistan finally gets a place in the point table with just one point to the team’s credit while NZ has 3 points after one win in a match.
It must also be noted that the earlier match today was between Ireland and England which also got spoiled due to rain. But as the match was already played and Ireland scored a good 157 in 19.2 overs, they were declared the winning team by Duckworth Lewis Stern method.
England was chasing at 86/5 when the match stopped. And in the DLS system, their score was calculated to be 105/5 which was just 5 marks behind the winning run as per the DLS par score. Andrew Balbirnie, who scored 62 for Ireland was announced Man of the match. Tomorrow India plays against the Netherlands at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
