In what could be seen as one of the most daring moves to combine the highest level of sport and entertainment, FIFA confirmed on Thursday, May 14, that a historic half-time show is being planned for next year’s World Cup Final. The event is to take place on July 19, 2026, in MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ.
Though the tournament has always included spectacular opening and closing shows, this particular 11-minute show is going to be the first “Super Bowl-style” half-time performance held during the final game ever.
A Show of a Lifetime
The lineup was revealed in a fun video released by Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay who is curating the show, starring his friends from Sesame Street and The Muppets, including such icons like Elmo and Kermit the Frog. The headlining artists create huge momentum across the world stage:
Shakira: As someone who’s long been associated with soccer fandom, she just dropped the official song for the 2026 World Cup, called “Dai Dai,” which features Burna Boy.
Madonna: “The Queen of Pop” will take the stage before releasing her next studio album, Confessions II, later in July 2026.
BTS: The K-pop group made their comeback recently, following the release of their sixth studio album ARIRANG, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after their mandatory military service ended for all of its members.
In collaboration with Global Citizen, the show becomes a great fundraiser for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aimed at raising $100 million to promote quality education and football among children around the world. So far, FIFA pledged $1 out of each World Cup ticket sold into this more than $30 million fund.
