Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in the much anticipated ‘El Clasico’ at Chepauk on May 2 in IPL 2026. Defeating the yellow cap players by 8 wickets, CSK chased down a 160-run target like a cakewalk.

Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians came into the contest seeking revenge after suffering their heaviest-ever IPL defeat earlier at Wankhede. The first wicket was a dramatic loss at just 1 run. However, Ryan Rickelton (37) and Naman Dhir (57) gave a blistering start to the batting, reaching 57 runs in the powerplay. The middle order batsman later failed to provide support, loosing wickets cheaply at regular intervals.

CSK in return lost Sanju Samson cheaply for 11 runs, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (67*) scored a spectacular unbeaten half-century. The man of the show was Kartik Sharma who hit his fist IPL 50 and brought home a victory by 8 wickets in 18.1 overs.

However, Gaikwad was awarded the player of the match.

Currently, PBKS top the charts with 13 points, followed by RCB, SRH and RR with 12 pts. It looks like MI and LSG couldn’t make it to the top this season.

Meanwhile, PBKS and GT are scheduled for a face off today. While Punjab players gear up to prove their high-octane philosophy can survive the mid-season slump, GT eyes to sprint the charts.
