London: India struck twice in the morning session on day four of the World Test Championship final, but Australia steadily increased their lead to 374 runs by reaching 201 for 6 at lunch.
The Australian team faced a tough challenge in the morning session, scoring 78 runs in 26 overs. However, they recovered in the afternoon session, scoring 123 runs in 27 overs.
India’s bowlers were impressive in the morning session, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami taking two wickets each. Bumrah dismissed David Warner for 17 and Marnus Labuschagne for 12. Shami dismissed Usman Khawaja for 28.
However, Australia’s middle order batsman, Steve Smith and Travis Head, put on a 77-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Smith scored 50 runs off 92 balls, while Head scored 36 runs off 67 balls.
India’s bowlers were able to break the partnership when Bumrah dismissed Smith for 50. Head was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin for 36.
Australia’s tailenders, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood, added 60 runs for the seventh wicket. Lyon scored 23 runs off 33 balls, while Hazlewood scored 37 runs off 42 balls.
India will need to bowl out Australia quickly in the afternoon session to have a chance of winning the match.
