After a clean sweep series with the West Indies on Sunday, India rose to No.1 position in the shortest format of the game sending England to place 2. The 3-0 score on Sunday helped the Men in Blue to overtake England, with the Rohit Sharma side now matching the top rating of 269. While ranks 1 and 2 hold the same ratings, India charted a total of 10,484. Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa stood at the top five while Australia remained sixth after their victory against Sri Lanka.
Men in Blue in Kolkata swept the Windies with 17 runs taking the title for T20Is. The team had earlier defeated WI 3-0 in the ODI series as well. The Rohit Sharma men would now lock horns with Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series beginning on Thursday.
Suryakumar Yadav (65) and Venkatesh Iyer (35 not out) starred with the bat as India posted 184/5 in the allotted 20 overs. In the last five overs, the hosts managed to add 86 runs to the total, taking the score past the 180-run mark. Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav forged a 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Earlier on Saturday, the BCCI announced a break for Skipper Kohli and current wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The duo flew back home and so was given a break from the bio-bubble. Kohli who was a part of the Bio Bubble since the match in England would prepare for his 100th Test match slated to be played in Mohali in the first week of March.
