Hangzhou: India clinched the gold medal in the compound archery mixed team final at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Wednesday, defeating South Korea by a score of 159-158. This is India’s first gold medal in archery at the Asian Games.
The Indian team was represented by Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale. Vennam is a two-time world champion and Deotale is a rising star in the sport.
The Indian pair got off to a strong start, winning the first two sets of the match. However, the South Koreans fought back in the third set to level the match at 2-2.
The fourth set was a closely fought affair, with both teams exchanging arrows. However, in the end, the Indian pair managed to secure a narrow victory to take a 3-2 lead in the match.
The Indian pair needed just one more point to win the match in the fifth set. Vennam and Deotale delivered under pressure, shooting two perfect 10s to clinch the gold medal for India.
Meanwhile, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra added another feather to his cap by winning the gold medal in javelin throw at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday. Chopra threw 89.30m to clinch the gold, ahead of China’s Shiying Liu (85.35m) and Japan’s Yuta Kokubun (84.80m).
