Top-class commentator Harsha Bhogle has raised doubts about the vice captain appointment of the youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi in a senior red-ball squad.
On X, Bhogle noted Suryavanshi’s outstanding talent but said that maybe he has been placed in the charge too early in his red-ball career.
“I wonder what the thinking is behind making Sooryavanshi vice-captain of a senior red ball team. He has played 12 innings for 207 runs @ 17.25. His talent is extraordinary but there is a learning curve and he is at the bottom of it in red ball cricket.,” Bhogle wrote.
Bhogle’s remarks have raised doubts among fans of the game as to whether responsibility should be placed on the shoulders of a player in his early development of first-class cricket.
The statistics quoted by Harsha Bhogle shows that Suryavanshi has scored 207 runs in 12 number of innings, averaging 17.25 runs for every innings in red-ball cricket. Those are not yet representative of his ultimate potential but on the whole, the young batter has established a reputation as one of the India’s brightens of the age-group and white-ball cricket venues.
There have been mixed reactions about the appointment: some view it more of an investment in the future, while others think experience should be the sole factor to consider for senior post at domestic cricket level.
However, ratings do not seem to have deterred Suryavanshi and he is still one of the top young prospects in the country, where he will be expected to develop in all formats of the sport.
