India head coach Gautam Gambhir is coming back to the forefront of the debate surrounding Sanju Samson’s absence from the national team, having said the batsman is now in a position to be certain about his future. Gambhir said the discussion with Samson is on a private note but added the veteran hitter was certainly in India’s thoughts.
Though the discussion between Gautam Gambhir and Samson cannot be made public with the recent T20I series, the latter said that such talks with the player be kept confidential between him and the head coach.
Sanju Samson has been given clarity from my side, that’s my side and his side and it’s not going to come out. I’m completely clear on his contribution towards India so far. So there’s nothing that he can’t bounce back from, Gambhir said.
It comes after a slew of rumours have swirled the world regarding Samson’s future in the Indian team after his exclusion in recent outings. His absence caused much dismay and anger to fans and some ex-cricketers particularly when the selection committee members gave a young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi his debut in the international arena.
The selectors are still treating Gambhir with respect and his exclusion from the roster will not be permanent, according to Gambhir. Easler worries that the club may have second-guessed its approach to drafting, so the head coach’s comfort may give them pointed at least. The club has come under criticism from fans at Samson, who have wondered what the head coach did to get his team wrong, and one answer could be the rest they are looking for.
Samson will be looking to prove himself in the consistent form with a view to making another appearance for the national side as the T20I calendar continues in India.
