Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry created cricket history after becoming the first player to win nine ICC titles as Australia defeated England by seven wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at Lord’s on Sunday.
The win marked Perry’s breakthrough to become the most successful cricketer in ICC events in the history of the game, sealing another amazing chapter in her brilliant sportsmanship journey.
Australia captain Sophie Molineux played the position of fielder and took the toss and chose to bowl first. The early game was duly spoiled for England, who were bowled out shortly after the start in the second over following Lucy Hamilton’s dismissal of Amy Jones off a slender Rohidiah edge, and Annabel Sutherland’s cheap pen at Danielle Wyatt. England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt hit 58 off 53 balls and Freya Kemped threw in a lightning fast 44 delve match momentum from the end-off for England to bring 150 runs to the table. Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Sophie Molineux and Annabel Sutherland picked up their respective wickets.
Australia lost an early wicket too when Georgia Voll was out for nine as they chased 151. But, Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield forged an all champion century pair which turned the game. Boys hit boundaries at an average rate with Mooney hitting 10 in 64 deliveries and Litchfield was just short of the half-century mark having 48 boundaries off 35 balls, two of which were sixes.
Ellyse Perry was unbeaten on 13 from 12 balls as Australia cruised up to the target with 17 balls to spare, capping a fine seven-wicket victory.
Thanks to her terrific display, Beth Mooney won Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards.
