India added another medal to its collection at the Commonwealth Games on Day 8, as weightlifter Lovepreet Singh clinched silver in the men’s 110 kg event. Lovepreet set the Games record in snatch and narrowly missed out on the gold medal. In his first attempt, Lovpreet Singh lifted 205 kgs in the clean and jerk round. Later he lifted 15kgs extre, yet not closing gap.
Meanwhile, Seema Paliramna also contributed to the tally, claiming bronze in women’s discus throw. With this, India’s official medal tally rose up to 17, with three gold, 10 silver, and four bronze. In the 2026 Commonwealth Games, India’s boxing contingent has assured the nation 10 more medals.
Earlier in the day, Neeraj Chopra finished fifth in men’s javelin throw, qualifying to enter the finale. He was joined by two other Indians, Rohit Yadav and Yashveer Singh, in the final, while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also made it through the seventh place.
A select few also faced disappointment on Day 8.
Parul Chaudhary fell short of a medal in the women’s 5000 meters race as she completed it in a time of 15:08.56 milliseconds. The race for gold ended between Australia’s Rose Davies and Jessica Hull, but Davies ultimately clinched it with 14:44.53.
The 400 meters race of men’s decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar came fourth. Both Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill finish outside the medal positions in the men’s shot put final.
