The Kolkata Knight Riders chairman, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, has been warned by the Board of Control of Cricket in India after losing his temper on the field during an IPL 2026 game between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. The young batter has been fined one-fifth of his match fees and one demerit point due to the violation of Level 1 of IPL Code of Conduct.
The incident took place in the fifth over of the innings of KKR when Raghuvanshi was controversially adjudged out on grounds of his obstructing the field. He tried to get a quick single, and was repulsed halfway before hitting the ground. He was hit by the field throw leading to an appeal by Mohammed Shami. Following the replay, third umpire Rohan Pandit decided that Raghuvanshi had intentionally blocked the throw and he was dismissed.
Raghuvanshi, who was visibly upset over the ruling, angrily reacted, hitting the boundary cushion with his bat and hurling his helmet in the dugout. His act was considered as being a contravention of Article 2.2, which concerns the abuse of equipment or ground fixtures. The 21-year-old later confessed to the crime and went by the decision of the referee of the match.
At the same time, the head coach of KKR, Abhishek Nayar, who was caught on camera in an angry argument with the fourth umpire after the dismissal, was spared any form of disciplinary consequences.
The scandal has elicited controversy amongst fans and experts and has underscored how thin is the line between passion and discipline in high stakes matches.
